Mario Balotelli will be alongside Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo when he changes his mentality, says Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini

The Italian striker has found form recently but continues to make headlines off the football pitch, and his manager has told him he could become one of best if he matures

Roberto Mancini feels that if Mario Balotelli changed his mentality then he could become one best three players in the world.

The Manchester City striker has impressed in recent games, scoring twice in his side’s 6-1 thrashing over Manchester United in last month’s derby, and the Italian manager feels that he could one day rank alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Mancini has insisted that this will only happen if the 21-year-old changes his attitude and learns to keep his emotions under control.
"I hope for Mario the day when he changes mentality comes soon,” he told The Sun.

"That is the day he will be one of the three best players in the world along with Messi and Cristiano.

"Whenever I put him on in games he hits the ground running immediately.

"After the game against QPR, he moaned to me, 'I didn't get a goal!'

"But I told him his goal is to help the team in a difficult moment - and he'd achieved it."

Even though the striker is still young, he is yet to establish himself at international level, but with recent injuries in the Italian squad, Mancini feels this is time for Balotelli to prove himself and show what the Azzurri have been missing.

Balotelli is in the squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Ukraine, and with the absence of Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi, Mancini feels this is his player's time.

“Italy is missing its two first-choice strikers but Balo can take their places," the manager said.

"He is so talented he can play as a single striker, with a partner or wide on the wing."
